"I've been told I need to exercise
BUT
I have no idea where to start"
Does this sound familiar? We've been told by our doctors about the importance of regular exercise, but what they neglect to tell us is HOW. We can join a gym, but then need a plan. Walking on the treadmill is good, but eventually gets boring, and then it's easy to just stop going. We read magazine articles that describe a workout plan so we can have our own Kardashian butt, but will that help me meet my health and fitness goals? What exercises do I do in order to offset my sedentary job? I have health issues that are due to obesity or inactivity, but my body hurts when I move - how am I supposed to workout? When I try to exercise, I get so out of breath that I am miserable and I hate it.....
The Facts
"Physical inactivity is the fourth leading cause of death worldwide" (published by Lancet, 2012)
"Inactive people are nearly twice as likely to develop heart disease as those who are active" (National Institute of Health, Heart Disease Risk Factors, Jan. 18, 2017)
"There is substantial evidence that higher levels of physical activity are linked to lower risks of several cancers" (National Institute of Health, Physical Activity and Cancer Fact Sheet, Jan. 27, 2017)
"10 million people in the US have osteoporosis" and "34 million have low bone mass, which places them at increased risk", "with osteoporosis, even a minor tumble can be serious, requiring surgery or hospitalization" (NIH, "Keeping bones healthy and strong", Feb. 2010)
Wouldn't it be great if......
Your body felt strong and capable
You were able to participate in activities that you used to enjoy
You looked forward to exercise
You are able to move freely and without pain
You reduced your risk of heart disease, diabetes, cancer and osteoporosis
You can keep up with (or even outrun!) your children or grandchildren
You gain confidence accomplishing things you never thought you'd be able to do
Your age is only a number, and you feel better now than you did 10, 20, 30 years ago
The Good News
Exercise does not have to be a chore. You can accomplish your goals without killing yourself at the gym. Not all personal trainers make you workout so hard that you puke! There are many ways to get to this healthy and active place - anyone can do it and it is never too late!
I take a mindful approach to your fitness. It is not a one-size-fits-all type of proposition. Your goals are the focal point of the process, and getting you there needs to be done in a manner that makes you feel a sense of accomplishment and keeps you motivated to continue to challenge yourself and get stronger. I provide you with a plan that is achievable, simple, and keeps you coming back! Exercise is not always easy - it isn't called a "workout" for nothing. But anything we do towards self-improvement is always going to involve some effort. No one ever says "I shouldn't have gone to workout today"!
Once you start seeing positive changes in your body, movement, and abilities, this process becomes even more addicting. You soon notice that you always feel better after exercise and really crave it if a workout is missed. Providing you with exercise options that fit who you are allow workouts to become a lifelong habit!
